Eco Church

We are an Eco Church with a Bronze Award - and we are now aiming for our Silver Award.
The Eco Church awards help us as a church to work within a framework to act to care for God's Creation.
We are looking at 5 areas to improve sustainability and care for the environment:
-
Worship and teaching
-
Buildings and energy
-
Land and nature
-
Community and global engagement
-
Lifestyle
How you can get involved:
-
Join the St. Luke's Eco group
We are an inclusive and welcoming group of passionate people who are about the environment.
Contact Rev Juliet to find out how to join us.
One of our projects will be to improve our outdoor areas - creating natural opportunities to enhance the biodiversity, exploration and education of the space.
We need your time and effort to help with some of the work.
We have some ambitious plans to make our Church garden not only beautiful but also to become a community space for all ages to interact with nature. Can you help with any of the below - please let me know (before bringing anything):
* time – to help with gardening and making beds
* edging for beds (scaffolding planks, floorboards, gravel boards)
* material for beds (e.g. compost, lawn clippings, woodchip, top soil, old leaves, cut up prunings, large bits of cardboard, shredded paper, old bedding from a rabbit hutch)
* tools - hand trowels, forks, spades (slimmer border spades ideally), watering cans
* seeds for our new beds: sweetcorn, sunflower seeds (variety for cut flowers, rather than giants), peas, dahlia, cosmos, radishes
* seed compost/compost/soil for planting seeds in
* mini greenhouse / cold frame
* pest protection - copper rings for the slugs, netting to stop the pigeons eating beans
* bird boxes and other wildlife homes (bat / hedgehog etc.) we can place in the garden
Work out your carbon footprint and aim to be a Net Zero Carbon householder - there are many tools online to help you.
Can you buy less, reuse more, recycle everything you are able to?
Try taking small steps for change - why not try going greener for Lent
Find out more about the science behind climate change and empower yourself and others to act - why not explore this course by Climate Fresk
Add your voice to a campaign - such as No Faith in Fossil Fuels.
Help assess the status of wildlife - RSPB wildlife surveys are simple and fun to do.
Worship outside with us as we find God's imprint in Creation. Our next Forest Church is 16th March at 3pm - we will meet at the church.
If you are not sure where to start but want to help look after God's creation consider donating to a charity which works to look after our environment.
For example Target 25 which aims to protect the most vulnerable species in the UK.
